"I didn't know Aryamann could be really possessive. I thought he didn't have a single jealous bone in him," Jai said in a monotonous voice, his knuckles turning white due to his death grip on the steering wheel.
"Of course, he is possessive. After all, I am his fiancée, and you must know him enough to conclude that he doesn't like sharing," I said jokingly.
"Of course," he said.
Aryamann put up a show in front of J to make the relationship look more real. I can understand that. What I don't understand is why Jai is behaving oddly in response to that.
"Are you alright? Anything wrong?" I asked.
"No. Nothing. I was really worried when I couldn't find you anywhere. Now that I found you, I am perfectly fine," he said, flashing a grin at me.
He drove silently for the rest of our journey.
But I was caught up in my thoughts. About what all happened today.
The Mehrotra family is not like what the tabloids portray.
All of them loved me. And I couldn't help but feel guilty about cheating them. How could Aryamann do this to his own family? Doesn't he feel a tiny bit of remorse?
And Aryamann!
Why do I always have mixed feelings where he is concerned?
Why do I lose control when he touches me?
What happened in the kitchen today shouldn't have happened. Why did I let it happen?
And how can I enjoy the touch of a man I don't even like?
It felt like I was set on fire when he touched me. When his roughened hands caressed my bare skin around the waist! Goodness, even thinking about it is giving me goosebumps.
And when his mouth touched my shoulder blade…
Okay! Stop right there, Bhumi Basu!
Whatever happened today was a mistake.
Instead of thinking about his touch, you should remember what a manipulative basta*d he is.
He fooled me. He fooled me with that contract.
How could I sign it without reading the entire content? Where was my brain?
"Bhumi? Are you alright?" I broke out of my thoughts when J asked with concern on his face.
"Yes, yes. I am absolutely alright. Why wouldn't I be?" I asked with an extra cheerful chuckle.
"You were blushing a while ago, and then suddenly you started looking furious. I just got confused with your changing expressions," J said and I smiled sheepishly.
"It's nothing, J. I was thinking about something. Nothing important though," I said, waving my hand dismissively.
******
"Don't touch that. They are not for you, Bhumi," Arohi said, swatting my hands away from the cupcakes she was packing.
"It won't hurt anyone if I just have one," I said with a pout.
"If I let you have one, then you will be wanting another one. No thanks," she said, giving me her back off look.
It's the weekend, and the whole day I spent with the kids at a foster home nearby.
Sofia, the woman running the foster home, had fostered me for two years once. She was the closest I had to a mother after my own passed away. When she had to shift to Mumbai, I was heartbroken.
She had never been married. Devoting her life to kids like me. And as soon as I reached Mumbai, I looked her up and found her. She was ecstatic to meet me. And the kids started looking up at me like their elder sister. And I always go over there for the weekends.
Arohi and Bani had accompanied me there once, and Roohi always makes cupcakes or any other delicacies for them when I go over. She is the best when it comes to baking. She is saving up enough to do a course and become a professional patissier.
Aryamann called up in the morning, asking me to meet him to discuss the engagement party.
Well, not exactly asking. He kind of demanded that I meet him today.
Like hell, I will.
Weekends are for the kids at the Foster home.
No compromise on that.
I finished packing all the cupcakes, and J took me to the Foster home.
"Do you come here every week?" He asked, and I nodded.
"Bhumi di," we heard the excited squeals and turned around to see the kids running towards me.
Jai left the orphanage when I told him that I was staying the night.
But of course, I didn't tell him my secret.
How can I tell him when not even Arohi or Bani knows about it?
It's my secret hobby.
I am a radio jockey. And I am doing the weekend special show from ten to eleven at night. The only one who knows about this hobby of mine is Sofia.
I leave once the kids are in bed and return back after the show. So they never realise that I go missing for two hours at night.
Aryamann's POV!
"Rey. Where the hell is my laptop?" I growled at my second in command.
"Mr. Mehrotra, it is on your desk," he said patiently, pointing at the laptop on the desk, right in front of me.
"I asked you to bring orange juice. Not apple juice," I growled again, when he placed the glass of apple juice on the table.
"But Mr. Mehrotra, you asked for apple juice," Rey said.
"Now it is my fault? The mistake was yours, and now you are blaming me?" I asked, looking furiously at him.
"Not at all, Mr. Mehrotra. I apologise. I will go and get your orange juice," Rey said patiently.
"Rey, it's okay. Leave it. You can go," Daksh said.
"Aryamann. What is wrong with you? You have been on the edge the whole day. The whole household staff are walking on eggshells," Gaurav reprimanded.
"There is nothing like that, okay?"
"If you say so. Did you talk to Bhumi about the engagement party?" Daksh asked, and it was like showing the raging bull a red rag.
"Don't take her name in front of me," I growled.
"Oh. So the problem is Bhumi. So tell me what did she do now?" Gaurav asked, his interest quite evident in his eyes.
"I told her to meet me here to discuss the engagement party this afternoon. And do you know what she said? That she is busy. Can you believe it? She told me, The Aryamann Mehrotra that she is fuc*ing busy. On top of that, Jai is not telling me where she is. He told me he can't let me know as it is Bhumi's privacy. I mean, seriously? He works for me and his loyalty is towards Bhumi whom he hardly met a week ago," I rambled out my frustration.
I looked up to see them grinning at me.
"Why the hell are you two laughing at me now?" I growled again.
"It's good to see you reacting, Aryamann. You always have this stoic face and you don't react to anything that happens in your life anymore," Daksh said softly.
"True, brother. And since Bhumi came into your life, you have started reacting to anything and everything. Even if it is fury mostly," Gaurav added, and my lips thinned in annoyance.
They are just imagining things. I am the same as before.
"Guys, there is nothing like that. It's just that no one had ever dared to go against my words, and this girl goes against everything I say. And it is getting on my nerves. That's all. Don't read more into it," I said without any expression.
Daksh and Gaurav are talking as if Bhumi is changing me.
My foot. She doesn't have such a hold on me.
"Okay. Leave it. Today is our brothers’ night out. So no talks about Ishitha bhabhi or Bhumi. Okay? And as usual, we will begin with the weekend special radio show of 'RJ RAM," Gaurav said, grinning at us.
Most of the weekend nights, we Mehrotra brothers spend the night together, here at my den. And our night begins with a stupid radio show.
I mean seriously?
Gaurav is addicted to this show, and nowadays Daksh also likes it because this RAM girl offered some advice that helped him clear a misunderstanding between him and Ishtitha.
How much more ridiculous can they get?
"Seriously guys. I don't understand what is so special about this show," I said, rolling my eyes showing my disapproval.
"You won't understand until you fall in love, Aryamann."
"You are talking as if you are in love," I said with a scoff.
"I am not in love. But I do believe in love. And I believe I will meet my soulmate soon," he said, winking at me.
He turned the radio on for the show as it was ten at night. Now I have to bear with this for an hour.
"Ms. Moem once said these beautiful lines:
'It's the subtle way the heart speaks
To reach the one it calls.
Poetry flows from your soul
and you've no idea at all.
From the curve of your smile
to the things you don't say,
I hear every single heartbeat
from ten thousand miles away.'"
"Good evening, my lovelies. This is your favourite RJ RAM. If your heart is singing to talk to me, take your phone and dial me at once. Let us begin the show with a beautiful song. Stay tuned darlings."
"Hey, don't you think she sounds very familiar?" I asked in confusion.
"Of course, Aryamann. We have been listening to this show for almost two years. It will definitely sound familiar."
"No. It's just… Anyway, leave it," I said, shrugging.
"Here goes our first caller, Christie. Hello, Christie. How are you? How's life?" RAM asked.
"Hey, RAM. Everything is going good other than the little fight I got into with my mother. Because she is always complaining that I am glued to my mobile phone," Christie said, and RAM laughed out loud.
And it was a pretty laugh. It sounded musical to my ear.
What the hell?
"All mommas are like that, Christie. If you say, mumma, I am having a headache, she would say it ought to happen if you always stare at your phone. And if you say, mumma, I am having a tummy ache, she would say the exact same thing. I mean seriously? What's the connection between a tummy ache and mobile phone use? But having a mother to scold you is a blessing. Not everyone is lucky to have that gift," RAM said a little emotionally.
"That's true. I don't know how I will survive without my momma," Christie said.
"So Christie. Tell me what problem do you have in your love life?"
"The problem is that I don't have a love life," Christie said, and RAM laughed again.
"So Christie, tell me why did you call?" RAM asked.
"Okay! I called because I wanted to know one thing. You solve the problems of lovers all around the world. I wanted to know whether you are in love with someone?" Christie asked curiously.
"Ha ha ha. No one ever asked me this question before, Christie. And I am totally caught off guard. Well, just like you, I do not have a love life either. But I have cent percent confidence that I will meet my one great love soon," RAM said dreamily.
"If you have never fallen in love before, why do you believe in love?" Christie asked.
Smart girl!
"Because I have seen the love between my papa and momma. The love that gave them strength to fight the world. And my prince charming will come soon, who is going to be my strength," RAM said with so much conviction.
"All the best RAM. I am also waiting for my prince charming to come sweep me off my feet," Christie said.
"Here comes another beautiful song. Stay tuned, my favourite listeners. I will be back with the next caller soon," RAM said and played the next song.
"Who believes in this prince charming bullshit nowadays. Crazy girl. Perfect love and perfect marriage exist only in fairytales. You won't find them in real life," I said.
"Aryamann, don't be such a cynic. Not all girls are like her. There is someone out there who will heal your heart," Gaurav said.
"I just don't care. I am feeling sleepy. Good night, brothers," I said and left them to listen to their stupid show.
